What people see or learn, who it is for, what they get out of it. The description will not say more.

One per line: the timestamp, then the title. We put them in order from 00:00 and copy them as they are.

One per line, the way you want them to appear. They are copied without changes.

How it works

  1. 1

    Describe the video

What people see, and if you have them, the title, keyword, chapters and links.

  2. 2

    Get two descriptions

Two ways to present the video, with chapters, links and hashtags in place.

  3. 3

    Copy the best one

Each shows its size in bytes, under YouTube’s 5,000 limit.

What makes a good YouTube description

  • The first lines present the video

YouTube’s help center says so: these are the lines people see before “Show more”. Say what they will learn or see.

  • One or two keywords

YouTube recommends picking one or two and featuring them in the description and the title. Never a list of keywords: that is not allowed.

  • One description per video

A unique description helps each video stand out from similar content in search.

  • Chapters for longer videos

They let viewers jump to the part they want. The first at 00:00, at least three, each at least 10 seconds.

  • Three hashtags are enough

YouTube shows up to three next to the title, and ignores all of them on a video that has more than 60.

Frequently asked questions

How long can a YouTube description be?

YouTube’s help center says 5,000 characters; its technical documentation says 5,000 bytes. An “é” counts as two bytes and an emoji as four: this generator counts the same way, so the description always fits.

How do I add chapters to a YouTube video?

Write the list of timestamps and titles in the description: the first at 00:00, at least three, in order, and at least 10 seconds per chapter. Type them in “Your chapters”: they are fixed to these rules and placed in the description.

Why are my chapters not showing?

Usually one of the three rules is missing: a first timestamp at 00:00, at least three chapters, 10 seconds each. Your chapters also replace YouTube’s automatic chapters.

How many hashtags should I put in a description?

Three are enough: YouTube shows up to three next to the title, picked from those in the description. Past 60 it ignores them all, and hashtags unrelated to the video are not allowed.

Should I fill the description with keywords?

No. YouTube recommends featuring one or two keywords and bans lists of words or repeated sentences in the description. This generator writes normal sentences.

Is the generator free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no credit card. Each visitor gets 25 requests a day across all our text generators, with two descriptions each.

What happens to my text and links?

They are only used to write your descriptions. We do not keep them or link them to any account.
