YouTube Tag Generator
Enter your video title and get a list of tags sorted from most useful to broadest. Keep the ones you like and copy them in one go, under YouTube’s 500-character limit.
Free, no sign-up. Up to 15 requests a day.
How it works
- 1
Enter the title
Add a few words about the topic if the title does not say it all.
- 2
Sort the list
Tags come from most useful to broadest. Tick or untick: the total updates.
- 3
Copy and paste
One click copies the ticked tags, separated by commas, the way YouTube Studio expects them.
Using YouTube tags well
Work on the title and thumbnail first
YouTube says it itself: they, along with the description, are what make people find and pick a video.
Put the main keyword first
The words someone would type to find your video, as they are, then their variations.
Think about misspellings
An app, brand or place name people often get wrong: that is where tags really help.
Stay on topic
Tags that do not describe the video bring you nothing, and YouTube’s spam policies forbid overdoing them.
Hashtags go elsewhere
A hashtag (#) goes in the title or description and is visible; a tag stays hidden in YouTube Studio.
Frequently asked questions
How many characters can YouTube tags have?
Up to 500 characters for all tags together, according to YouTube’s documentation. The commas between tags count, and a tag with a space also counts two quotation marks: “video editing” weighs 15 characters. The generator counts the same way.
Do YouTube tags still matter?
Not much. YouTube Help says tags play a minimal role in your video’s discovery: the title, thumbnail and description matter more. They are still useful when a word in your video is commonly misspelled.
Where do I add tags in YouTube Studio?
While uploading, in the Details section, click “More options” and add your tags. For a video already online: Content, pick the video, then “Show more”. Paste the list copied here: the commas split it into tags.
Tags vs hashtags: what is the difference?
Tags are hidden keywords added in YouTube Studio. Hashtags start with # and go in the title or description, where people see them and can tap through to other videos using them.
How many tags should I use?
YouTube does not set a number, only the 500-character limit. A few precise tags beat a long list: the generator ticks the first, most useful ones, as long as they fit within the limit.
Is the generator really free?
Yes, with no sign-up and no credit card. To keep the tool open to everyone, each visitor gets 15 requests a day.
Can I get tags in French?
Yes: pick “French” as the tag language, for a video in French.
What happens to my video title and topic?
They are only used to suggest your tags. We do not keep them or link them to any account.
