How it works
- 1
Enter your topic
What the post really gives, with a precise detail if you have one.
- 2
Pick the format
A short video, a carousel or a written post: the hook length adapts.
- 3
Keep the best one
Ten hooks in different styles, each labeled. Copy the one that sounds most like you.
What makes a good hook
Right away
In a video, the hook is said or shown in the very first second: from what we see, that is when people decide to stay. In a post, it is the first line.
A precise detail
A gesture, an object, a situation your audience recognizes. “Avoid these mistakes” says nothing; “Stop washing linen at 140 degrees” stops the thumb.
A promise you keep
Meta shows fewer texts that withhold information or exaggerate (“You won’t believe…”), and YouTube does not allow misleading titles. A good hook says exactly what comes next.
No engagement bait
“Comment if you agree” is not a hook: Meta shows posts that ask for engagement to fewer people. A real question is fine.
Try several styles
Question, number, contrarian take, story, mistake to avoid: switch styles from one post to the next and see which one keeps your audience watching.
Frequently asked questions
What is a hook?
It is the first line of a post, said or shown on screen at the start of a video, or the first line of a written post. Its job: make the topic clear in an instant and make people want the rest. LinkedIn’s creator guide puts the hook first in what makes a good post.
How many words should a Reel or TikTok hook have?
Few enough to say in two or three seconds: the hooks suggested for a video have 12 words or fewer. For a carousel, 10 words or fewer, written large on the first slide.
What is the difference between a hook and clickbait?
A hook announces what the post really delivers. Clickbait promises more or hides information to force the click: Meta shows those texts less and YouTube does not allow misleading titles. The generator never invents a number or result that is not in your topic.
Can I use the same hook for a video and its caption?
Yes, but say it on screen first, then rephrase it in the caption: people reading the caption have already seen the video and want what comes next.
How do I write the first line of a LinkedIn post?
One short, concrete sentence on its own line: it is often the only one people read before “see more”. Pick “LinkedIn post” in the tool, then write the rest with our LinkedIn post generator.
How many hooks should I try?
The tool suggests ten in different styles. Keep two or three that sound like you, and test them across several posts on the same topic.
Is the generator free?
Yes, with no sign-up and no credit card. Each visitor gets 25 requests a day across all our text generators. Your topic is not kept.
