How do I check if a TikTok username is available?
Type it into the tool: if a public profile already uses that name, it is taken and we show you the link. Otherwise, open the profile on TikTok in one tap: if TikTok says it cannot find the account, the name is free. The only real proof is to try it in TikTok, under Edit profile.
What are the rules for a TikTok username?
According to TikTok’s help center: 2 to 24 characters, only letters, numbers, underscores and periods, and never a period at the end. The tool checks this as you type.
Why does TikTok say a name is unavailable when no account exists?
TikTok’s help center gives two cases: a name used by a suspended or deactivated account, and a name someone just gave up, which cannot be claimed again for a short period. Our check only sees public profiles, hence the “probably”.
How often can I change my TikTok username?
Once every 30 days, according to TikTok’s help center. Keep in mind that changing your username also changes your profile link.
What is the difference between username and nickname?
Your username is your handle, with the @: it is your profile link and only one account can have it. Your nickname is the name other people see on your profile.
Does a private account count as taken?
Yes, the name is taken, but TikTok does not show private accounts to other sites, so the tool will say “probably free”. Tap Open on TikTok: if a profile shows up, even a private one, the name is taken.
How do I change my TikTok username?
In the app, tap Profile at the bottom, then Edit profile, then Username. Type the new name and tap Save.
