Tips for a seamless carousel
Make the first slide count
It is the one people see in the feed and on your profile, according to Instagram’s help center. It should make people want to swipe.
Keep key details away from the cuts
A face or a word split in two shows at every swipe. The white lines in the frame show where the cuts are.
Give the eye a path
A horizon, a road, a line of text that carries on: people want to see what comes next.
One format, no re-cropping
Instagram uses the same shape for every image in a carousel. Keep the tool’s shape so the edges meet to the pixel.
Scheduling with a tool? Stick to 4:5
The Instagram API used by scheduling tools only takes images between 4:5 and 1.91:1, according to Meta’s documentation. Post 3:4 from the app.
Frequently asked questions
How do I post a panoramic photo on Instagram?
Instagram crops photos wider than 1.91:1, according to its help center. To show the whole thing, split it into slides: drop it into the tool, pick the number of slides and the format, download the images, then post them together as a carousel, in numbered order.
How many photos can an Instagram carousel have?
Up to 20 photos and videos, according to Instagram’s help center. So the tool splits your image into 2 to 20 slides.
What size should a panoramic carousel be?
Each slide is 1080 pixels wide, so the ideal source is 1080 pixels wide per slide: in 4:5, 2160 × 1350 px for 2 slides, 3240 × 1350 px for 3, 5400 × 1350 px for 5 and 10800 × 1350 px for 10. In square, the height is 1080 px; in 3:4, 1440 px.
Which format should I pick: 4:5, square or 3:4?
4:5 works everywhere, scheduling tools included. 3:4 gives the biggest image, but only if you post from the Instagram app: the Instagram API stops at 4:5. Square suits a very wide photo that would otherwise need many slides.
How many slides should I use?
The “Fit my image” button finds the number that keeps your photo’s shape with almost nothing cut. With fewer slides, the tool trims the top and bottom, or leaves a background if you pick “Whole image”.
How do I avoid a visible seam between slides?
The images are cut to the pixel, with no margin. Post them in order, without re-cropping in Instagram, and apply the same filter to all of them or none.
What about a mosaic on my profile?
A carousel only shows its first image on the profile. For one big picture made of several posts, use Kreatoai’s Instagram grid maker instead.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Everything happens in your browser: the photo never leaves your device, and nothing is kept when you close the page.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. The “Save to my phone” button puts the slides in your photos when your browser allows it; otherwise, download them one by one or as a ZIP.
Is it really free?
Yes: no sign-up, no watermark and no usage limit.
